Farm, we are going back! We've reserved 10 spots to volunteer at Clarfied,
but we'd love to have even more people show up! Clarfield is an urban farm
created by Urban Farms of Central Ohio, a nonprofit organization that
supports the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. Please join us to help at the farm. No
prior gardening experience is necessary, and children who are old enough to
help (according to the parent's judgment) are welcome to join!

related to the Columbus Pride parade and arrests of four people of color (
#blackpride4 ) are invited

Join us Sunday, July 2, 2017 to take the streets for the Columbus Veggie
5K. Our run/walk is part of the 2nd Annual Columbus Charity Day 5K, which
is the kick-off event of two days of Red, White & BOOM! The race starts at
5pm followed by an entertaining post-race party hosted by Red, White &
Boom! The parade, street festival, and fireworks take place the following
day on July 3rd.

This is a collaborative fundraising effort of several charitable
organizations running on the same course, while fundraising for their
specific charitable organization. The online registration system allows
each participant to choose their beneficiary.

By co-producing the event with the Charity Day 5K, the Columbus Veggie 5K
will be an experience unlike Columbus has ever seen. Participants receive
entry fee, finishers medal, Charity Day 5K t-shirt, post-race party hosted
by Red White & Boom. A portion of race registration fee will be donated to
support the Columbus VegFest. We hope to see you on Sunday July 2nd, 2017

This month we will be discussing: Staying Proud!

Pride month has come and gone. Let's discuss how everyone's Pride was this
year and what we can do to keep that sense of community and belonging going
all year round!

This Roundtable is geared toward the Queer community. We will be meeting on
the first Monday of the month at The Columbus Space to discuss topics
pertaining to the Queer experience. For the purposes of this Roundtable
'Queer' is used as an umbrella term for anyone who does not identify as
heteronormative.

Volunteers will canvass along the parade route to provide information about

Queer Yoga is Columbus's first queer-focused yoga class that offers
professional yoga instruction in a designated Safe(r) Space. We endeavor to
cultivate an atmosphere of acceptance and community in all we do, from sun

We are going to learn about what the grand jury is, how it works and how we
must work to change it. We will also be planning for a silent march.

Activists are mobilizing across the country to stop the GOP healthcare bill
in its tracks. On Thursday, July 6th—during the 4th of July recess when
Senators return to their home states—there will be sit-ins at Senate
offices across the country demanding Republican Senators vote NO on the
bill.

The so-called “Better Care Reconciliation Act” introduced in the Senate
would take away health insurance from 22 million working, poor, and
disabled Americans, gut Medicaid by almost $800 billion, and provide a
massive tax cut for the wealthiest 2% of the population. The passage of
this bill means that thousands of middle-class and poor people will die so
that the rich can get richer.

Inspired by ADAPT’s courageous nonviolent sit-ins last week targeting
Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, we believe greater
nonviolent direct action is called for to elevate the impact and
unpopularity of the healthcare bill within the media and to pressure
Republican Senators to vote NO on the bill.

#AllOfUs, Democracy Spring, Democratic Socialists of America, Our
Revolution, The People's Consortium, and Progressive Democrats of America
are working together to organize, coordinate, and support sit-ins at Senate
offices across the country on Thursday, July 6th. We will target as many
Republican Senators as possible with a common demand that they vote NO on
the Better Care Reconciliation Act.

Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Our country needs single-payer,
Medicare for All that leaves no one out. But right now we must do
everything we can to defend the tens of millions who will suffer if
Trumpcare passes. If ordinary people rise up and demonstrate that this bill
is morally unacceptable, if we put our own bodies and liberties on the line
to show our neighbors that human lives are stake, we have a real shot at
stopping this bill from becoming law.

'tweaking' will make this bill anything other than a total disaster for our
health security. It's nothing but a giant tax break for millionaires paid
for by denying care to 22 million Americans and raising premiums on
everyone else. That's why only 17% of Americans back it. Senator Portman
must continue to hear from us until he joins the vast majority of Ohioans
in saying NO to TrumpCare once and for all.

photography, multi-media pieces, and print materials from OEFFA's
grassroots oral history and media arts project on ecological farming in

It’s working! Now we need you to bring this home and protect our care.

We’ve delayed a vote on the disastrous health care bill in the Senate.
Combined, our calls, letters and protests are being heard. Now, we can do
something to stop Trumpcare altogether. Come knock on doors to build our
power and mobilize fellow Ohioans to take action against this dreadful
bill.

The calls, letters and protests we sent to Sen. Rob Portman are the reason
he publicly promised to vote “NO” on the so-called Better Care
Reconciliation Act. But with a new version of the bill coming out any day
now, we need to make sure he sticks to his promise by getting hundreds more
Ohioans to call him and demand he remains opposed.

The disastrous health care law is a threat to every one of us and our loved
ones. Twenty-two million people would lose health care coverage. Many
people without insurance would be put on a six-month waiting list before
they are allowed to get coverage. Costs would skyrocket — especially costs
for seniors. In other words, the bill would mean higher costs and
lower-quality care for millions of Americans — all to fund tax breaks for
the wealthy.

Join Working America's and the Town Hall Project's canvassing action day at
10 a.m. Saturday, July 8. Come knock on doors with us as we talk to
hundreds of voters in Columbus. Help generate the calls that will stop this
immoral Trumpcare bill for good. Canvassing is great fun and easy to do.

We will hold a short training for everyone before the training on Saturday
morning.

after dogs and cats?

Join us as we get our Asana on to benefit Ohio House Rabbit Rescue! This
yoga class will be a very slow flow Hatha class, lasting one hour.

More bunny love and adoption information from 3:30-4:00pm.

Bring a yoga mat and 2 blankets if you have them.

There WILL be live bunnies from the Ohio House Rabbit Rescue at this class.

*Kids ARE welcome at this event. However, we ask that if they are

animals, so they frighten very easily.

Will the bunnies venture to my mat?

Maybe. Bunnies have a tendency to have minds of their own. They may wander

The bunnies ARE litterbox trained, however bunnies may decide to leave a
"present" on your mat. They are small, oderless pellets, and we will be
coming around to pick up after the bunnies after class if necessary.

will bring and describe dishes that are special to them from their
cultures. Then, we will share food and conversation in a picnic-style
setting.

SPAN Ohio, Central Ohio Region, will show the newly released documentary,
"Big Pharma Market Failure" on Monday, July 10th at 7:00 PM in the
Whetstone Library Meeting Room, 3909 North High Street. All are welcome. It

The documentary is the second American health care film produced by Richard
Masters, CEO of MCS Industries, which focuses on high costs. This 50-minute
film tells why Americans spend so much on drugs, and what we can and should
do about it.

This past Thursday, July 6th, hundreds of people across the US participated
in sit-ins at senators' offices to stand up against Trumpcare. Columbus
activists joined in the national action by sitting in at Portman's local
office with these demands:
1) That Senator Portman host a public town hall to discuss the healthcare
bill with his constituents.
2) That he make a clear commitment to vote against the Better Care
Reconciliation Act recently introduced in the United States Senate -
legislation which would strip millions of people of lifesaving healthcare.

Join Socialist Alternative Columbus and Junto Remains Unsilenced to call on
Senator Portman to discuss the Senate healthcare bill with constituents on
Tuesday, July 11th at 6:30pm at the Ohio Statehouse.

With or without him, we will speak out and make our voices heard. If
passed, Trumpcare would deny tens of millions access to healthcare and
represent one of the greatest transfers of wealth from the working class to
the 1% in U.S. history through massive tax cuts for the super-rich and
corporations. 469,600 Ohioans would lose healthcare coverage by 2026 under
Trumpcare. There is an imminent threat of a vote on Trumpcare this coming
week as Congress goes back into session. We need to send a bold message
calling on Portman to oppose any version Trumpcare and demand improved
Medicare for All for all Ohioans!

Queer Yoga is Columbus's first queer-focused yoga class that offers
professional yoga instruction in a designated Safe(r) Space. We endeavor to
cultivate an atmosphere of acceptance and community in all we do, from sun

This week, Ohio’s legislature passed a budget bill that freezes enrollments
in expanded Medicaid after July 1, 2018. The bill was sent to Governor
Kasich, and he promptly vetoed the language that freezes enrollments!
However, the legislature may have the votes to override his veto and pass
the enrollment freeze into law.

Under this bill, 500,000 Ohioans will lose access to health care. Next week
will be our last chance to protect the Medicaid expansion in Ohio.

Join us at the Ohio Statehouse at noon on Wednesday, July 5 for a Save
Medicaid, Save Lives! Rally. We need you to show up and tell Ohio’s
legislators that they must not take health care away from hundreds of
thousands of low-income Ohioans.

Before Equitas Health opened the King-Lincoln Medical Center at 750 East
Long Street in the Historic near-east side neighborhood, for every ONE
primary care provider in neighborhood, there were 4777 people*.

This is a neighborhood that has desperately needed access to professional,
quality health care. 53.9% of the population is at or below 200% poverty.
The leading cause of death in the area is chronic disease, including
manageable diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The opening of the King-Lincoln Medical Center aligns with the City of
Columbus' Health and Wellness Plan which "calls for a community model for
preventative and personalized healthcare. The strategy will be to build a
holistic health and wellness system that will trigger a cultural shift in
the residents’ personal health attitudes and behaviors by focusing on
preventative and proactive care."

We need help to get the word out – there is now access to professional,
quality care in the neighborhood! Our new Medical Center provides primary
care to people over the age of 13, dental care for all ages, specialized
care for those living with HIV/AIDS, behavioral health services, and
includes a not-for-profit, full-service pharmacy.

Volunteers will be paired with Equitas Health representatives to place
door-hangers on nearby homes and speak with those who may have questions
about services.

About & Mission:

RCC4C is an alliance of restored citizens and advocates who are working
together to affect changes in our criminal justice system. We believe in a
society where people are given second chances and the opportunity for
redemption.

Unfortunately, our present criminal justice system uses perpetuating
punishment and collateral sanctions to create an underclass among us. The
formerly incarcerated must have the ability to be rehabilitated and return
to their families and the community with the tools necessary to rebuild and
restructure their lives.

Indeed, social justice demands that the criminal justice system be
reevaluated, that barriers to employment, housing and other critical
services be removed, and that increased resources—pre and post release—be
used to assist individuals to restore their lives.

Those closest to the problems have insights about these issues and their
voices must be heard as solutions are crafted. Restored citizens’
perspectives and those whose lives have been impacted by the criminal
justice system provide a different lens for community members and decision
makers to think about criminal justice issues. This shift in thinking is
necessary to achieve broad, meaningful, humane and lasting criminal justice
reform.

Advocacy Priorities:

* Improve the support systems for those who are re-entering society
from incarceration - It is estimated that 95% of prisoners will be
released back into the community. These individuals and receiving
communities would be better served if those who are returning have
reliable access to housing, mental health care, recovery programs,
and sustainable employment that will keep them out of poverty. This
will help to reduce recidivism, reduce violence, and heal and
stabilize families.
* Promote humane treatment and restorative measures for those currently
incarcerated – A majority of those entering our jails and prisons
suffer with mental illness and/or addiction. These individuals need
access to effective treatment. In 2015, Ohio prisons held 10 times
the amount of mentally ill than mental health institutions in our
state. [v] Furthermore, 80% of prisoners in Ohio have not completed
high school and lack critical skills needed to maintain gainful
employment, which is critical to the stability of the family. [vi]
Restoration and rehabilitation needs to be central to the treatment
of those currently incarcerated.
* Lower the population in our county jails and state prisons – Our
Jails and prisons are costly not only to individuals and families who
are directly impacted by incarceration, but also to the taxpayers in
Ohio. Since 1980 Ohio’s prison population has more than tripled. 1 in
4 state employees work in corrections. [vii] There are many areas in
need of reform to help reduce the numbers of people incarcerated,
including how we police our communities, creating more alternatives
to incarceration, sentencing reform, and changing policies like
mandatory minimums which limit judicial discretion.
* Address policies and practices which serve as the foundation for
unequal representation of black males, people of color, and the
economically disadvantaged within the criminal justice system- The
majority of individuals incarcerated are already marginalized in our
society. Many policies and procedures used in our criminal justice
system further target and disenfranchise these populations,
increasing opportunity and wealth disparities in our communities.
Issues like high costs for attorneys, court fees and bail also place
many at a disadvantage maneuvering the criminal justice system.

1969 was the year the Cuyahoga River burned. It was a wakeup call for the
nation - pollution and environmental degradation was out of control.
Shortly after, a small group of dedicated individuals began the Ohio
Environmental Council and have defended Ohio’s environment ever since.

Though we are past the days of burning rivers, we are now witnessing the
effects of a hotter climate - disease-carrying ticks are on the rise,
drinking water is more vulnerable to lead and toxins, and air quality
alerts are becoming more frequent.

For ourselves, our families, and our neighbors, we need emerging leaders
from all backgrounds to come together and tackle these issues in creative,
new ways. When it comes to the health and safety of our people and our
environment there is no room for divisiveness.

You are already an important piece of Ohio’s future, and we need you.

Since its founding, The OEC has been leading environmental victories in
Ohio. We use legislative action, legal power, and movement building to

Ride4Autism is back at cyclistconnection for it’s 10th annual event. Last
year we raised $7033 for The Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at
Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This year we want to bring that total up to
and beyond the $10,000 mark. Help us make a difference on April 22nd. Join

Senator Rob Portman and Vice President Mike Pence will be speaking at the
annual Ohio Republican Party state dinner fundraiser in Columbus.

The Arboretum North site is located northwest of the Nationwide and Ohio
Farm Bureau 4-H Center.
Parking is available across Fred Taylor Drive in Gray Lot #3.

City Council will be voting to put a racially-discriminatory form of
at-large election on the ballot. Call Shannon Hardin, Priscilla Tyson,
Jaiza Paige, Mitch Brown, and Zach Klein to tell them not to allow
institutionalized racism in our charter for the next 100 years. Call once a

Join us for a community conversation led by the #BlackPride4, community
organizers associated with the BP4, and other invited Black LGBTQ+
community members.

On July 17, exactly one month after the arrests and police brutality
inflicted on peaceful protesters at their own Pride Parade, Stonewall
Columbus (SWC) organizers a "community conversation" to address people's
concerns. This conversation was called in the wake of a planned meeting
between the #BlackPride4 and Stonewall on June 22 that was canceled after
the BP4's arrival, with the BP4 facing disrespect from the SWC board
members who told them of the last-minute cancellation.

Stonewall's community conversation on July 17 was disrupted by community
organizers associated with the #BlackPride4 to insist that Stonewall take
responsibility for the police violence that occurred at their event and
take the issues surrounding the #BlackPride4 seriously. The BP4 community
hosted a short panel of their own at the meeting so that the community in
attendance could hear responses from the people most affected by the
situation.

Since this panel lasted only a short amount of time, we invite all
interested to a community conversation led by the #BlackPride4 and their
community of Black LGBTQ+ individuals.

Queer Yoga is Columbus's first queer-focused yoga class that offers
professional yoga instruction in a designated Safe(r) Space. We endeavor to
cultivate an atmosphere of acceptance and community in all we do, from sun
salutations to post-yoga snack time. Whether you are new to yoga, or you
can complete a headstand without assistance, you will find something to
challenge and deepen your practice.

Class fees are $6 for ALL participants. Everyone is welcome. Bring a mat.

Join us for a spoken word open mic night to fundraise for the
#BlackPride4!!

During Columbus’ Pride parade on June 17, 2017, a group of protesters asked
for 7 minutes of silence to bring awareness to the 7 shots fired at
Philandro Castile as well as the 15 trans women who have been murdered this
year alone. Within 30 seconds, police met the protestors with violence,
peppery spray, and criminal charges. Four were arrested during pride, now
known at the #BlackPride4, and are in need of money for legal fees.

Not only is this a chance to support the #BlackPride4 but to better
understand queer people of color through artistic expression. Let’s listen
to each other through spoken word, poetry, and music and help the BP4 fight
police brutality in court.

We will have the fabulous John Gibson and Tiffany Mariie to MC the event
and get things started!
