SHARE FAR AND WIDE! As you know, the next 48 hours are going to be critical for the ‘nuclear’ fight over Gorsuch.

On Monday, Gorsuch came out of committee on a party-line vote. McConnell filed for cloture today. 30-hour wait period before the cloture vote. Currently takes 60 senators to deny cloture, and if the Democrats filibuster, they can’t close debate and move to a vote. But McConnell could change Senate rules to allow this and all future Supreme Court justices to be confirmed with a simple 51-vote majority – the so-called “nuclear option.”

The 30-hour period to change the Senate rules is up on Thursday, and changing the Senate rules requires only 51 votes. 52 Republicans in the Senate. Some GOP senators are expressing reservations about changing 230 years of tradition to confirm this one nominee. Corker, Collins, McCain…

I just got off a conference call with Indivisible Policy Manager Gonzalo Martinez de Vedia, who went over intel from our partners in DC on the messages that will be most helpful to have coming from constituents this week.

On Wednesday, we would want to pressure Sen Portman HARD to vote AGAINST the “nuclear option” rule change. Gorsuch should have to meet the same criteria that every other nominee has had to meet for 230 years.  Is this nominee worth blowing up 230 years of precedent and Senate tradition? We may lose, but we can at least hold Portman accountable for going against his constituents AGAIN.

If there are any actions planned, email press@indivisibleguide.com and tweet @IndivisibleTeam to amplify – press, videos, etc, and they will share it out.
