Last week, the Republicans revealed their newest ACA replacement plan, the American Health Care Act. Many organizations have made public statements against the new plan in the days since its release. The Ohio Hospitals Association warned that the changes made in the AHCA could cause 1 in 4 hospitals in Ohio to close. The effects of the loss of 25% of Ohio hospitals would be devastating, in terms of both public health and economic losses.
Since the plan’s release, Senator Portman has said that he supports the bill’s phaseout of Medicaid expansion funding in 2020. Congressman Stivers is also expected to support the bill. Let’s let Senator Portman and Congressman Stivers know that we want them to vote NO on this bill.
For today’s call to action, call Senator Portman at (202) 224-3353 and Congressman Stivers at (202) 225-2015 and ask them to oppose the American Health Care Act. If you’d like, you can use the following script:
I am calling to ask Senator Portman/Congressman Stivers to vote no on the American Health Care Act. The phaseout of Medicaid expansion funding that is included in the bill will have devastating effects on Ohio’s healthcare system. Delaying the phaseout is NOT good enough. According to the Ohio Hospitals Association, 1 in 4 hospitals in Ohio could close, which would devastate entire communities. I want Senator Portman/Congressman Stivers to vote NO on the American Health Care Act.
Be sure to give the staff member who answers your call your name and your full address, including your zip code, to ensure that you are counted as a constituent.
Thanks to Fairfield County Indivisible for the script!
