Rep. Joyce Beatty joins Indivisible members at the Ohio District 3 Indivisible meeting on Sunday, April 30,2017.

Indivisible members in Ohio’s Third Congressional District met this past Sunday for a discussion about the organization’s successes and goals, and were treated to a surprise visit from their Member of Congress, Rep. Joyce Beatty.

The discussion Sunday centered on Indivisible members’ victories in President Trump’s first 100 days in office, as well as using social media as one of many ways to amplify the group’s message.

Among the successes celebrated were:

  • Applying pressure to Sen. Portman on a range of issues and holding a successful “Portman Town Hall Memorial”
  • Consistent rallies and phone calls to demonstrate our opposition to the Trump agenda
  • Contributing to the failure of the ACA repeal and the rejected nomination of Andrew Pudzer for Labor Secretary
  • Attracting significant earned media and gaining respect and recognition in the community

Moving forward, help is needed to continue resisting the Trump agenda at the local level. District 3 is looking for volunteers to participate and/or lead in a range of committees, including outreach, social media, special events, calls to action, research, communications and media. If you’re interested in becoming part of one of those committees, email IndivisibleColumbusDistrict3@gmail.com.

Meryl Neiman leads the discussion at the Indivisible District 3 meeting on Sunday, April 30, 2017.District members also discussed the power of social media in reaching a larger audience. Some best practices for members include:

  • Join Indivisible groups on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Use Facebook to help build interest among people you know or have connections with. Share events, news, video and more with your friends.
  • Use Twitter to get your message out to a wider audience. Be witty, concise, add photos/video, use hashtags and make sure to interact with other members to boost your audience. Also: Don’t feed the trolls – block them and move on!

Group members also had a welcome interruption with a surprise visit from Beatty. She thanked Indivisible members for their passion and commitment, and encouraged them to continue fighting for the values they hold dear. She echoed the discussion about using social media wisely and reiterated her dedication on a range of issues, including health care.

The next event planned by Indivisible District 3 is the “Chickens Come Home to Roost” Party on May 13. Click here to learn more and sign up to attend!
